A new book about artists’ books

I learned some great news this month: one of my artist books has been chosen to appear in a book showcasing artists’ books (click on the cover image at left for details). The piece that was selected is a Florence-themed abecedary structured around the letters of the Italian alphabet, entitled A Florentine Alphabet. Of all of the art forms, I’d have to say that the book—with its endless possibilities for both the diverse media that can comprise the content & the structure itself—is my favorite. I’m really looking forward to seeing all of the work that’s been collected for 1000 Artists’ Books when it comes out next year.

Speaking of artist books, anyone who is interested in this art form might also enjoy the book I ordered a few months ago: Making Handmade Books: 100+ Bindings, Structures & Forms, by Alisa Golden. It’s actually a compilation of three of the author’s previous books, and is full of inspiration, as well as instructions for realizing the many different structures. Also, a note to those of you who have expressed an interest in the smaller version of A Florentine Alphabet . . . If you have inquired I will send you an email when I have a chance to create the limited edition (in the New Year).
