8 x 10 Print

Printed with archival inks on

100% Cotton Rag Photo Paper

Florence’s rooftops are a defining element of the city. With few exceptions, they are covered with terracotta . . .  this use of a single material/color lends a pleasing sense of unity to the urban landscape. But it’s not only the color that intrigues me. In Rooftops, I chose to focus on how the rooflines create a dynamic series of angles—an ordered chaos that results in endless triangles. (I believe this fascination with triangles stems from an appreciation of Lyonel Feininger’s work, an artist whose paintings of urban scenes I have always loved.)

My original 14 x 18-inch (35.5 x 45.7-cm) oil painting is reproduced on 100% cotton, museum-grade paper. The image itself measures 8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm), and is surrounded by a narrow white border. The print is titled & signed on the back, and packaged in a clear archival sleeve. (Click on the image for a larger view; please note that the images you see on the site are saved at a low resolution for the web, but they are of course printed at high resolution.)
